YASHIKI debuted in 2014 and since then has captured the hearts of knitwear enthusiasts who have had the slim chance to encounter the brand in person. Design director Sayatomo Yashiki initially found a niche within the knitwear scene, focusing on the stitching intricacies and the detailing that came henceforth.
Each season’s collections focus on inspirational moments from Sayatomo’s life; this season’s theme is “Playing with Snow.” He states that he remembers as a child the way that the ice formations would appear on structures around his hometown. From the way that ice would form on a freezing car window in the morning to an icicle, he found when he was little, the body of this Tsurara knit represents the way the icicle shines underneath the sun, and the vertical side pattern represents water droplets from the melting ice. It’s these emotions that are then translated into the design aspects of the plating techniques. In knitting, plating refers to when two (or more) yarns are looped together to create a separate fabric for the individual piece’s front and back. Lastly, all tops are adorned with dropped shoulder seams that drape off the shoulder and create a slightly slouched silhouette, leaving the wearer feeling relaxed.
The collection is releasing now at select stockists across Japan and online here.
