During his time as a student, POSTELEGANT director Yuya Nakata interned for fellow Japanese brand minä perhonen and learned a perpetual theme from the designer, Akira Minagawa. Yuya noticed that Mr. Minagawa would plan all design aspects a long way in advance, with the central hope of creating designs that will sustain a brand for 100 years. Although the aesthetics are much different between the brands—as they should be—the mantra remained with Yuya, and now POSTELEGANT creates timeless and luxury-centric collections at a price point that is easy to buy into.
When viewing the collection as a whole, it is easy to see the significance of sourcing quality fabrics. Yuya states that he begins each season with a discussion between himself and the material weavers he works with. Those conversations lead him to decide which patterns to focus on and at what quantity he can produce. This season, fabrications range far and wide, from double-face wool, paper silk, linen, and cotton. Stand-out pieces include these wool trousers that are generously cut and feature a middle crease that adds formality to the pant, which the wideness takes away. This outfit showcases all the attributes mentioned above of the brand, the vest and bag are constructed of a soft faux fur in a deep shade of brown, and the skirt is asymmetrically cut to allow for multiple styling instances.
The brand is stocked in retailers across Japan, so be prepared for its release within the next few months.
