Focused solely on the intent to combine the supple and durable characteristics of leather into an everyday wearable wardrobe, CCU presents its current offerings for S/S ’22.
This collection introduces a new and engaging process into the brand’s profile. Pieces like this military-referenced utility shirt utilize two (technically three) fabrics to achieve the brand’s goal. The main body of material is cotton silk, which combines both fabrics, creating a lightweight and comfortable weave texture. It’s then finished off with undyed pig-suede detailing on the collar, elbow, and pockets. Other notable standouts include another take on a military-style utility shirt. This version is shortened, features an adjustable cinch for the back hem, and is constructed using sheep leather with a matte nappalan finish. The term nappalan refers to a tiny layer of color applied to either side of the leather (in this case, the flesh side). This, in turn, creates a smoother, much softer surface and, over time, will form a patina according to the owner’s wear and usage process. Ultimately, brands that can find their niche and work directly with local manufacturers to fulfill their vision are naturally set up for success. And it’ll be interesting to see what advancements they will make with their techniques soon.
