Never being the one to shy away from exaggerating and distorting proportions, BODYSONG delivers their A/W ’20 collection with a steadily increasing amount of fanfare around the brand. A quick timeline of BODYSONG includes establishing themselves in 2012, receiving the Tokyo Fashion Award, and showcasing their collections abroad in Paris and Italy in 2018, then ultimately taking home the 2019 Tokyo New Designer Fashion Grand Prize. Recently, the designing reins have been taken over by an undisclosed designer, which hasn’t dampened the true ethos and social imprint of the brand.
This season we see the overall concept repeating itself through layering, fabrication, and print usage. The conjunction of fabrics and colors into one jacket or pant is what allows bodysong to stand-out amongst the young androgynous brands coming out of Japan now. This high-collar, exaggerated-sleeve jacket is a valid example of that point. It utilizes a terry cotton split-bottom-half, with the upper portion fabricated from lightweight nylon, finished off with pinstripe sleeve detail, and matching 5-panel hat. Bold graphics and prints are once again utilized as well, seemingly looking as if they were ripped straight out of a New York Times newspaper and plastered together to create various collages of text and images.
Accompanying the campaign is a short video that showcases various looks styled by Koji Oyamada and art direction by Yudai Ichinosawa.
